The next-generation Mercedes-AMG E 63 is ditching its iconic V8 engine in favor of electric motors, according to spy photos captured at the Nurburgring.
Key highlights:
-
Design: The new E 63 abandons the “jellybean” aesthetic of earlier EV models, returning to a traditional three-volume sedan shape with a long hood, steeply angled windshield, and defined trunk—more in line with the combustion E-Class.
-
Performance: Mercedes will use YASA’s axial-flux electric motor technology, expected to deliver over 800 horsepower, with estimates reaching 900–1,000 hp. These motors are half the weight of conventional radial-flux units, allowing for precise wheel vectoring with millisecond response times.
-
Timeline: The car will debut in late 2027, with customer deliveries starting in early 2028. It replaces the EQE in AMG’s lineup.
-
Visual cues: Flared wheel arches, a muscular stance, low-slung intakes for cooling, a lip spoiler, and canards emphasize its performance credentials. The prototype wore mismatched test wheels and provisional lighting.
The shift to full electrification will likely polarize enthusiasts who loved the V8, but the new E 63 is expected to accelerate faster than its gasoline predecessor.
