New spy shots offer the clearest view yet of the upcoming BMW X5 (G65) M60 interior, revealing a dramatically redesigned cabin heavily influenced by BMW’s Neue Klasse design language.
The biggest talking point is the new Panoramic Display stretching almost pillar to pillar across the dashboard. BMW is clearly moving toward a cleaner, screen-focused cockpit layout with significantly fewer traditional controls.
Even more controversial is the apparent removal of the classic iDrive controller. BMW has already confirmed that its upcoming iDrive X system will rely far more on touchscreen and voice controls instead of physical buttons.
The steering wheel also receives a completely new design. Haptic touch controls replace conventional buttons, while the red 12 o’clock marker and M stitching confirm this prototype is an M Performance model.
At the center of the dashboard sits a massive 17.9-inch infotainment display integrated into the Neue Klasse-inspired cockpit layout. Lower down on the center console, the SUV features a compact toggle-style gear selector alongside a rotary volume knob and hazard light controls.
The split-opening center console design also appears to incorporate cup holders near the lower dashboard area, while the latest spy shots additionally reveal details of the redesigned door panels and control layout.
Overall, the new X5 interior marks one of the biggest cabin transformations BMW has made in years, shifting away from traditional driver-focused physical interfaces toward a much more digital and minimalist approach.
The new BMW X5 enters its final test phase
BMW has officially revealed new details about the next-generation X5 ahead of its launch, and it looks like this could be the most versatile X5 ever built.
Key highlights:
• The new X5 will be offered with five different powertrain types:
- Gasoline mild hybrid
- Diesel mild hybrid
- Plug-in hybrid
- Fully electric iX5
- Hydrogen-powered iX5 Hydrogen (coming in 2028)
• The all-electric iX5 uses BMW’s new Gen6 eDrive platform with 800V architecture and a massive 141-144 kWh battery pack, making it the largest battery ever fitted to a BMW EV.
• BMW claims the iX5 60 xDrive will produce 578 hp (425 kW).
• The production iX5 Hydrogen arrives in 2028. BMW is using a new “Flat Storage” hydrogen tank system with seven carbon-fiber high-pressure tanks packaged under the vehicle floor, preserving cabin space.
• All versions benefit from BMW’s new “Heart of Joy” control system from the Neue Klasse program. BMW says it processes vehicle dynamics up to 10 times faster than previous systems, controlling power delivery, steering, braking, recuperation, and chassis functions in milliseconds.
• New Level 2 driver assistance features include:
- Entry-to-Exit motorway assistance
- Address-to-Address urban driving assistance
- Improved lane centering and collision avoidance systems
• Chassis upgrades include adaptive suspension as standard, optional air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and active anti-roll technology.
BMW appears to be taking a technology-neutral approach with the next X5. Instead of betting entirely on EVs, they’re offering ICE, PHEV, BEV, and hydrogen variants on the same platform.
The new BMW X5 M will be even more powerful and aggressive, maintaining BMW’s signature M-line design with an expected premiere in 2027.

BMW’s electric X5 M has been spotted testing hard at the Nürburgring.
The prototype gets a lower stance, huge cooling openings and no quad exhausts. Reports suggest a four-motor AWD setup with 800+ hp, backed by BMW’s new “Heart of Joy” vehicle dynamics control system.
Production is reportedly planned for 2028 in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Meanwhile, BMW is also expected to keep a V8-powered X5 M in the lineup.
