Mercedes-AMG’s electric GLA has been spotted up close.

A few things stand out:

  • Wider fenders and track than the standard model
  • Large brakes with red calipers
  • Lower ride height and sportier suspension setup
  • AMG-specific steering wheel and sport seats inside

Rumors suggest it could use three axial-flux motors with over 500 hp, making it one of the most powerful compact electric crossovers on the market.

Honestly, it looks more like a tall hatchback than an SUV.

The upcoming Mercedes GLA will launch in two powertrain variants based on the new MMA platform, featuring significantly improved range and charging capabilities for the electric version.

Key Details:

  • The electric GLA EQ launches in late 2026 with up to 720 km WLTP range, over 35% greater than the previous generation, using 800-volt architecture and next-generation battery chemistry
  • A 48-volt mild hybrid variant follows in early 2027, combining efficiency with everyday practicality
  • The GLA will feature sportier styling with a coupé-like roofline, slender D-pillar, and potentially a illuminated front grille inspired by the Concept CLA
  • Interior highlights include the MBUX Superscreen spanning the full width of the cockpit with streaming, eye-tracking, and AI-powered software
  • Production continues at the modernized Rastatt facility, also home to the CLA and GLB
  • Advanced battery technologies from manufacturers like CATL Shenxing and BYD will be used, with 15-minute charging capability (10-80%) and bi-directional charging for homes, grids, or other vehicles
  • Door handles will be conventional lever-style rather than flush designs

Why It Matters: The new GLA demonstrates Mercedes’ commitment to offering flexible powertrain solutions on its modular platform, positioning the compact SUV as a versatile offering across combustion, hybrid, and fully electric segments.

Leaked again..

The Mercedes-AMG GLA Electric is getting closer to production, with the latest prototype dropping most of its camouflage.

It’s expected to share the AMG CLA 45 Electric’s three-motor setup, potentially making around 671 hp (500 kW). The 800V architecture should also support up to 330 kW DC charging, with 10–80% reportedly taking around 22 minutes.

AMG upgrades include a more aggressive front end, wider side skirts, larger rear spoiler and diffuser.
