BMW has been spotted testing the all-electric 2028 M3 EV again, and this prototype is looking much closer to production. Built on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, it features a much cleaner front end with slim headlights, a wide stance, flared fenders, and a noticeably more aggressive body than the standard electric 3 Series.
One of the biggest talking points remains what’s underneath. The M3 EV is expected to use four electric motors with advanced torque vectoring, giving BMW unprecedented control over power delivery at each wheel. Output hasn’t been confirmed, but previous BMW M executives have hinted that the electric M3 will comfortably outperform today’s gas-powered M3 Competition.
BMW has also made it clear that the electric M3 won’t replace the gasoline version. Instead, the company plans to sell both side by side. The ICE model is expected to retain an updated twin-turbo inline-six with mild-hybrid assistance, while the EV targets buyers looking for maximum performance and next-generation technology.
The production M3 EV is expected to arrive around 2027, with the gasoline-powered next-generation M3 following roughly a year later, giving enthusiasts a choice between traditional six-cylinder performance and BMW’s most advanced electric M car yet.
