The upcoming 2027 BMW M5 will feature a substantial redesign moving away from the current generation, adopting the brand’s latest design language while retaining its V8 powertrain.

Key Details:

  • The new M5 will feature a horizontally oriented twin-kidney grille similar to the new i3, integrating lighting elements for a modern look
  • Interior will receive a major overhaul with Panoramic Vision dashboard layout, featuring a large central display and slim screen below the windshield
  • The 4.4-liter V8 paired with an electric motor will continue under the hood, potentially producing more than the current 717 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque
  • Electric-only range could exceed the current 42 miles thanks to higher-capacity batteries
  • Rear design will feature two pairs of outboard exhaust tips, differentiating it significantly from the current model

Why It Matters: The 2027 M5 represents a comprehensive evolution of BMW’s performance sedan, blending the brand’s new design direction with enhanced hybrid performance and technology features.

BMW M5 Touring

The BMW M5 Touring is receiving a facelift as part of BMW’s shift toward the Neue Klasse design era. While the current generation is relatively new, the update will focus on minor exterior tweaks combined with significant interior overhauls rather than a complete redesign.

Exterior Changes
The facelift will include relatively minimal exterior modifications
Based on spy shots, the design updates appear subtle compared to the interior upgrades.

Interior Upgrades
The interior will receive major changes, including

A new Panoramic iDrive system similar to the iX3, i3, and X5 models
An angled central infotainment display
BMW’s latest two-spoke steering wheel with large control pads on either side
Performance & Current Specs
The M5 Touring retains its powerful 717-hp plug-in hybrid powertrain
, featuring a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 combined with an electric motor, producing 738 lb-ft of torque
It accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds with a starting price of $125,300

Neue Klasse styling is coming to the M5 sooner than anyone expected.

The facelifted G90 prototype was caught at the Nürburgring, and it’s already adopting BMW’s new design language instead of waiting for a full redesign.

Looks like the V8 plug-in hybrid isn’t going anywhere.
