spyshots

The Deepal G318 is a new electric SUV that has been introduced as a hardcore off-road vehicle. This SUV is a product of the Chinese firm Deepal, under the sub-brand of Changan, and represents a significant move in the electric vehicle (EV) market, especially with its focus on rugged, off-road capabilities.

One of the most distinctive features of the Deepal G318 is its hybrid powertrain. It incorporates a 1.5-liter engine that functions uniquely as a generator to produce electric power for its battery systems. This approach is a hybrid one, combining a gas generator with an electric powertrain to extend the vehicle’s range. However, the exact range the G318 can cover on a full charge has not been specified yet.

In terms of design and size, the Deepal G318 adopts a popular square shape for off-road vehicles, featuring a boxy, rugged appearance. It measures 4750 mm in length, 1959 mm in width, and 1820 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2880 mm. This makes it comparable in size to larger mainstream SUVs like the extended-wheelbase Volkswagen Tiguan. The G318 also boasts C-shaped LED headlights, a solid bumper, high-clearance wheel arches, and a distinctive rear design with an iconic external spare tire, typically found on hardcore off-road vehicles. The G318 is expected to be available in two battery variants: 18.4 kWh and 35.1 kWh.

Deepal G318’s name is inspired by the G318 highway in China, known for its route from the Sichuan province to Tibet, popular among road trippers. This association hints at the vehicle’s capabilities and potential appeal to those who enjoy adventurous road trips.

The anticipated price for the Deepal G318 is around 300,000 yuan, which is approximately $42,200. This pricing positions it competitively in the electric SUV market, particularly for a vehicle with such specialized off-road capabilities. The G318 is expected to compete with other off-road capable models like the GWM Tank and BYD FangchenBao.

Overall, the Deepal G318 presents an interesting mix of electric innovation, off-road readiness, and practicality, making it a potential favorite for eco-friendly consumers who also enjoy adventurous terrains.
