Spy shots of a new BYD electric SUV, potentially the Sealion 06 EV, have been circulating on the Chinese Internet, providing a glimpse into the early development stages of the vehicle.
The design cues, such as the headlight clusters and semi-hidden door handles, suggest a resemblance to the Sealion 07 EV, while the rear appears more akin to the Sealion 05 EV.
The interior features align with the Ocean series, including a floating infotainment screen and an LCD instrument panel.
The vehicle is expected to be smaller than the Sealion 07 EV, with dimensions likely falling between the 05 and 07 models, and it is anticipated to be built on the e-platform 3.0 Evo.
The spy shots and MIIT listing information indicate that this new SUV, while sharing some elements with the Sealion 05 EV, has distinct rear design features, reinforcing the speculation that it is a separate model, possibly the Sealion 06 EV.
BYD has filed for the Sealion 06 SUV, the latest addition to its Sealion family, with the vehicle being larger than its predecessor, the Sealion 05 EV, and offering both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) versions.
The upcoming BYD Sealion 06 EV is poised to deliver enhanced performance with two new Blade battery pack options: 75.616 kWh and 82.732 kWh, which extend the CLTC driving range to 620 km and 710 km respectively.
These new batteries will be heavier but provide a significant boost in range compared to the current 65.28 kWh and 78.72 kWh options.
The vehicle’s powertrain is also improved, with the maximum power output increasing to 270 kW, a substantial 90 kW increase over the current models.
Despite these upgrades, the exterior design remains consistent with the “Ocean aesthetics” philosophy, retaining the same dimensions and distinctive styling elements like the closed front grille and “interstellar loop” taillight.
