2026 Mercedes-AMG flagship electric SUV

1. Mercedes-Benz’s AMG division is developing a new high-powered, bespoke electric SUV, set to be unveiled in 2026.
2. The SUV will be based on a new electric platform (AMG.EA) and will have its own unique styling and interior layout.
3. The new model will feature an 800V electric architecture, patented axial flux electric motors from Yasa, and a high-performance high-voltage battery.
4. The SUV will be the second production model based on the AMG.EA platform, following the second-generation GT 4-Door Coupé.
5. The new SUV is expected to offer over 1000bhp and advanced four-wheel drive capabilities, thanks to Yasa’s axial flux motors.
6. Production of the SUV is planned to take place at Mercedes-Benz’s manufacturing plant in Sindelfingen, Germany, alongside the new GT 4-Door Coupé.

Mercedes-AMG is reportedly developing an electric flagship SUV that promises over 1,000 horsepower. Scheduled for a 2026 launch, this new model is poised to rival high-performance luxury SUVs such as the BMW XM, Lotus Eletre, Aston Martin DBX, and Lamborghini Urus.

The specifications for this upcoming SUV are impressive. It features a power output of over 1,000 hp (746 kW) and utilizes a bespoke EV platform named AMG.EA. Key features include an 800V electric platform for faster charging, a high-performance battery pack designed for extended range and durability, and axial flux electric motors by Yasa. Additionally, the vehicle will have all-wheel drive, torque-vectoring capabilities and a self-leveling active suspension system.

In terms of size, this new SUV will be significantly larger than the current Mercedes-AMG GLE 63. It’s expected to measure approximately 5,100 mm in length with a wheelbase extending over 3,000 mm. This ensures more interior space and arguably better overall proportions suited to a flagship model.

Mercedes-AMG plans to start production of this ambitious project at its Sindelfingen factory in Germany starting in 2026. Prior to the production kickoff, there’s anticipation around the unveiling of a concept design that showcases what potential buyers can expect from this groundbreaking model.
