2026 Volkswagen ID.2 SUV(Electric T-Cross replacement)

Volkswagen has given an early look at the SUV version of its upcoming ID 2 supermini, due on sale in 2026 at less than €30,000 (£25,800).

Based on the same shortened MEB Entry platform as the ID 2, it will be built alongside that car – as well as the Cupra Raval and an equivalent Skoda model – in Spain.

VW ID Cross Concept Previewed Ahead Of Munich Motor Show

Volkswagen is set to unveil the ID Cross concept at the Munich Motor Show on September 7, teasing a compact electric crossover due by late 2026 with a starting price of around £25,000.

The ID Cross is positioned as an electric counterpart to the T-Cross, following VW’s new naming strategy that replaces the old numerical system. It will roll out alongside the ID Polo and a hot ID Polo GTI, forming part of Volkswagen Group’s Electric Urban Car Family, which also includes the Skoda Epiq and Cupra Raval.

Design cues take inspiration from the ID Polo but add SUV touches: upright stance, bulkier wheel arches, vent-style C-pillar, and a chunky rear spoiler. VW says the look is “safe, confident, bold” and marks a fresh direction from the ID 4 and ID 5.

The SUV will measure around 4.1m long, with a 2600mm wheelbase and more boot space than the ID 2, including a 50-liter lockable compartment under the floor. Inside, expect a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, 10.9-inch digital cluster, and physical switches for climate and audio. VW is also eliminating hard plastics to improve material quality and sustainability.

According to VW boss Thomas Schäfer, the new supermini EV family is key to stabilizing the brand after recent profit and volume dips. With the ID Cross and ID Polo, VW aims to offer affordable, practical EVs for urban buyers, combining style, space, and a fresh electric identity.
