The Volkswagen Tukan, set to replace the Saveiro and compete with the Fiat Strada and Toro, has been spotted in its final production form, revealing design, platform, and powertrain details ahead of its 2027 launch.

Key Details:

  • Based on the MQB A0 platform shared with the T-Cross, with shared front doors, A-pillars, and windshield; rear doors are unique to the pickup.
  • Will debut Brazil’s first hybrid flex engine: a 1.5 TSI Evo2 turbo with 48V mild-hybrid system, delivering 150 hp and 25.5 kgfm, paired with a 7-speed DSG.
  • Features LED headlights and taillights, with possible full-width rear light bar; rear brakes are drum-type for cost and simplicity.
  • Includes practical elements like an integrated roof rack with Santantônio (standard on higher trims) and a marine-style tonneau cover for cargo protection.
  • Exterior design includes a large honeycomb grille, aerodynamic front bumper, and 5-lug alloy wheels (on higher trims), with dimensions close to the Chevrolet Montana.
  • Rear suspension uses a rigid omega axle with semi-elliptic springs, mirroring the Fiat Strada for durability and payload capacity.
