Spy photos are the first of the New 2027 BMW X7. The German brand has been caught with a first prototype, and it looks like it’s walked right into the lion’s den by trying to avoid being photographed at all costs. A trap that sheds interesting light on its enormous size.
The new BMW X7, set for release in the latter half of 2027 for the 2028 model year, has been sighted testing in Germany with minimal styling changes influenced by BMW’s New Class line. The vehicle is slightly longer in wheelbase and features an evolved CLAR platform, split headlights, and four tailpipes in an M Performance configuration. The lineup for the US market is expected to include the 40 and M60 variants, with an Alpina model based on the M60 also anticipated.
The X7’s exterior lights may not be final, but the body panels suggest readiness for series production. The design evolution includes a new shoulder line that emphasizes width over height. The split headlights and four tailpipes are prominent features, with the quad-pipe setup suggesting a high-performance orientation. The X7 is rumored to adopt an X3-inspired kidney grille and offer a high-tech cabin akin to the Neue Klasse-based iX3.
The cabin is expected to feature BMW Operating System X and Panoramic iDrive, with potential redesigned steering wheels that include touch-sensitive controls. The all-electric variant of the X7, rumored to be codenamed G69, will be produced in Spartanburg alongside models like the X3 to X5. The iX7 range for the US market will reportedly include 50, 60, M70, and Alpina 100 specifications, while Europe may see a single-turbo diesel option.
The X7 and iX7 are expected to be available until late 2034, with no current rumors of a high M division performance model. The X7 M70 and the full-electric iX7 M70 will likely be the most powerful options. The powertrain is speculated to be the S68 twin-turbo V8 engine, which also powers the X7 M60i, with the possibility of being shared with other high-performance models within the brand’s lineup.
