The next-generation BYD Seagull has been spotted in China, and it’s growing into a very different car.
The new model measures 4,205 mm long with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. That makes it a massive 425 mm longer than the current Seagull, while the wheelbase grows by 150 mm. In fact, it’s now getting surprisingly close to the BYD Dolphin in overall size.
The design is completely new as well, with sharper headlights, semi-hidden door handles, blacked-out pillars and redesigned taillights. There’s also a roof-mounted LiDAR, which could bring BYD’s God’s Eye B driver-assistance system with city/highway navigation assistance and automated parking.
Inside, BYD appears to be going more minimalist. Spy shots suggest a larger center display, no conventional instrument screen, a new two-spoke steering wheel and a much bigger center storage area.
Power also gets a significant upgrade. The new Seagull has been filed with a 95-kW (127-hp) electric motor and an LFP battery pack.
At 4.2 meters long, though, is this really still a Seagull — or basically a new Dolphin-sized EV?
