The Sonata, a national sedan that has been constantly rumored to be discontinued, is making a dazzling return as a 9th generation (DN9) model! Hyundai Motor recently officially confirmed the development of the 9th generation Sonata and plans to begin test vehicle operations in 2026. The new Sonata will reflect Hyundai’s latest design philosophy, ‘Art of Steel,’ and will feature a retro futuristic design that emphasizes the strength and elaborate lines unique to iron materials rather than excessive decoration.
The 9th generation Sonata is expected to inherit its heritage, inspired by the angular silhouette of the 1st generation Sonata from 1985, while also focusing on electrified powertrains such as hybrids (HEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV). Although the sedan market is shrinking worldwide, Hyundai Motor plans to maintain the iconic name of the Sonata and bridge the gap between the Avante and the Grandeur with technology and economic efficiency. I’m looking forward to seeing if the “Sonata’s Golden Age” will return once again!
