Lucid has released the first official images of its upcoming Cosmos SUV, giving us our clearest look yet at the brand’s most affordable EV. Expected to start at around $50,000, the Cosmos is positioned as a direct rival to the Tesla Model Y and is considered one of Lucid’s most important future products.
The new SUV features a sleek coupe-like roofline, ultra-slim headlights, full-width horizontal LED taillights, and an unusually low-mounted third brake light integrated into the rear window. Inside, Lucid has confirmed the Cosmos will feature a single ultra-wide curved display spanning much of the dashboard.
Lucid has also delayed the Cosmos launch from late 2026 to early 2027. CEO Silvio Napoli said the company is prioritizing quality over speed after learning costly lessons from the software and production issues that affected the Air sedan and Gravity SUV. Rather than rushing the vehicle to market, Lucid says it will only launch when development and manufacturing meet its quality targets.
The Cosmos is one of four key projects Lucid believes are critical to its future. Alongside the mid-size EV lineup—which will eventually include three models—the company is also focused on completing its Saudi Arabian factory, advancing its robotaxi program, and improving cash flow through a major operational restructuring.
