The upcoming ‘Little G’ from Mercedes-Benz is poised to be an accessible entry into the G-Class lineage, offering a more compact and exclusively electric model that aligns with the brand’s expansion in the electric vehicle (EV) market.
This new model is designed to appeal to a broader audience by blending the legendary design elements of the G-Class with modern EV technology. It will sit on the innovative MB:EA platform, which supports a unibody construction and an 800V electric architecture, and feature a new fifth-generation battery aimed at delivering an impressive range of over 434 miles.
The ‘Little G’ will be positioned as a luxury alternative to upcoming rivals such as the Land Rover Defender ‘Sport’ and other rugged crossovers, with a price tag expected to be around £70,000, significantly lower than the current G-Class range. design will remain true to the G-Class’s military-inspired heritage, with a squared-off profile, flat surfaces, and a glasshouse with an almost flat windscreen, side windows, and rear screen.
The vehicle will also feature distinctive design elements such as rectangular indicators mounted on top of the front wings and flared wheel arches.
Power will be provided by Mercedes’ new eATS 2.0 electric motors, offering a two-speed gearbox and a potential combined output of 482bhp in the technically similar electric GLC. The ‘Little G’ represents Mercedes’ strategic response to a decline in net profit and a shift in consumer preferences, particularly in China, where there is a growing appetite for off-road vehicles with a heritage-inspired design.
