The forthcoming BMW M3 is set to offer buyers a significant choice in powertrains, with options for both the classic internal combustion engine and a new electric variant.
This move is part of BMW’s broader initiative to introduce the Neue Klasse platform, which emphasizes flexibility in propulsion methods.
The platform is expected to underpin a range of models, providing a scalable architecture that can accommodate various powertrain configurations.
The introduction of electric power in the M3 aligns with BMW’s commitment to electrification and reducing carbon emissions, without compromising on the high-performance standards associated with the M3 nameplate.

The upcoming BMW M3 (G84) is set to continue the legacy of its predecessors with a new gasoline-powered model.
The vehicle is anticipated to feature a mild-hybrid setup with a 3.0-liter inline-six engine, aiming to surpass the current model’s 550 horsepower output. Spy photos have revealed a design that maintains traditional rear-wheel-drive proportions while incorporating elements of BMW’s Neue Klasse styling, such as horizontal “nostrils,” simplified bodywork, and unique horizontal taillights.
The new M3 is expected to be unveiled closer to 2028, with an electric version to be introduced a year earlier.
