Lexus may be getting ready to turn the RX into a serious performance SUV.
A mysterious RX prototype was recently spotted testing in Europe, and it’s clearly more than a regular RX with a new body kit. The test car features wider fenders, wider tracks, a noticeably lower ride height, and covered 21-inch wheels hiding massive drilled brake rotors and red Brembo calipers.
It’s also running staggered Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tires, measuring 265/40 ZR21 up front and 295/35 ZR21 at the rear. Temporary exhaust tips at the back are another clue that Lexus is working on something much hotter than the current RX 500h F Sport Performance.
Japanese reports suggest this could become the Lexus RX Morizo RR, following the performance-focused LBX Morizo RR.
The biggest rumor involves what’s under the hood. Lexus is reportedly developing an AWD hybrid setup based around Toyota’s upcoming turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, paired with two electric motors. Combined output could reach roughly 600 hp.
That would put the RX into completely different territory, potentially giving Lexus a rival to high-performance SUVs like the BMW X5 M and Audi RS Q8.
The RX Morizo RR is rumored to arrive in 2028, likely after the regular RX receives its facelift. Lexus hasn’t officially confirmed the model yet, but judging by this prototype, something serious is definitely cooking.
