BYD launches Shark pickup in Mexico

  • BYD, a Chinese automaker, launched an pickup truck called BYD Shark in Mexico for 53,400 USD.
  • The vehicle is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with dual motors, offering 429 horsepower and a 5.7 second acceleration time from 0 to 100km/h.
  • BYD Shark is built on the DMO platform, which is specifically designed for off-road vehicles, and has a towing capacity of 2,500 kg and a max payload of 835 kg.
  • The vehicle is equipped with a 12.8" rotable central control screen and a 10.25" instrument panel.
  • BYD Shark will be competing with Ford Ranger PHEV and Toyota Hilux in Mexico.
  • Despite no plans for selling passenger EVs in the US, BYD has been making electric buses in Lancaster, California, since 2012.
