Dacia has revealed plans for a new budget electric city car, twinned with the Renault Twingo, priced under €18,000 and set to debut at the Paris motor show in October 2026.
Key Details:
- The new EV shares its platform with the Renault Twingo, featuring a similar raked C-pillar, curved roofline, and rounded rear windows, but with distinct styling differences including a thin gloss-black front panel inspired by the Dacia Spring.
- It is expected to feature a 27.5kWh battery offering just over 160 miles of range, closely matching the Twingo’s specifications.
- Priced from under €18,000, it will undercut the Twingo and rank among the cheapest EVs on sale.
- The car was developed in just 16 months and will not immediately replace the existing Dacia Spring, as the two models are positioned differently.
- Dacia has committed to three further EVs by 2030, including an electric version of the next-generation Sandero, which will use Renault’s CMF-B platform supporting combustion, hybrid, and electric powertrains.
- Dacia aims to grow its hybrid share from the current ~25% of sales to two-thirds in the future.
- The brand claims a 15% cost advantage over rivals through shared platforms and a lean distribution model.
Why It Matters: This new city EV reinforces Dacia’s position as a value-driven disruptor in the electric vehicle market, offering one of the most affordable EV options in Europe while signalling a broader electrification strategy through to 2030.
