Genesis has officially launched the updated 2025 Electrified GV70, a significant refresh of its all-electric SUV. The model, which first debuted in March 2022, marks Genesis’ third foray into the EV market, following the Electrified G80 sedan and the dedicated GV60 crossover. This mid-cycle update, arriving roughly 2 years and 10 months after the initial launch, builds upon the GV70’s foundation of luxury and performance with enhanced range, cutting-edge technology, and refined aesthetics.
A Design that Speaks Volumes
Staying true to Genesis’ design philosophy of “Athletic Elegance,” the refreshed Electrified GV70 boasts a meticulously crafted exterior. The front fascia features a new crest grille with a gradient G-Matrix pattern and a bolder bumper design that conveys a sophisticated EV presence. Genesis’ signature Two-Line headlamps now incorporate Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology, marrying elegant aesthetics with advanced lighting.
Along the sides, the introduction of new matte dark grey 20-inch wheels, along with updated colorways for the existing 19-inch options, lend an air of strength and refinement. At the rear, the turn signals have been repositioned from the bumper to the combination lamps for improved visibility, and the rear spoiler incorporates a streamlined High-Mounted Stop Lamp (HMSL), contributing to a cleaner, more modern look.
Inside, the cabin embodies Genesis’ “Beauty of White Space” philosophy, complemented by a distinctive oval design theme. The centerpiece is a new 27-inch integrated wide display that combines the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Touch-based climate controls add to the modern feel. A suite of features elevates the interior, including mood lighting that flows from the door trim to the center fascia, the “Milky Way” patterned mood lighting in the door garnish, a crystal-design electronic shift dial, a new Genesis emblem on the horn cover, and a one-tone steering wheel with precise stitching. Metal pedals complete the luxurious feel.
Buyers have a choice of 12 exterior colors, including a new Ceres Blue (gloss or matte), and three interior color options, including a striking Icy Blue/Glacier White two-tone combination.
Boosting Range and EV Technology
The refreshed GV70 EV benefits from a larger 84kWh fourth-generation battery, increasing the estimated range to 423 km (approx. 263 miles) on the Korean testing cycle with 19-inch wheels, a bump from the previous 400 km. Despite the larger battery, the vehicle retains fast-charging capabilities, hitting 80% charge in just 19 minutes using a 350kW ultra-fast charger. The battery conditioning system has also been enhanced, letting drivers pre-condition battery temperatures for optimal performance when charging.
New power management features allow the vehicle to enter a “POWER ON” state without depressing the brake pedal, allowing access to vehicle functions such as the climate control and interior V2L while not being able to drive the vehicle. Other additions include a motorized charge port door, complete with heating and lighting for improved convenience.
Enhanced Performance and Driving Dynamics
Genesis has also made strides in driving performance and refinement. The Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS), augmented with Highway Body motion Control (HBC), provides improved stability during highway driving. An Auto Terrain Mode automatically adapts the vehicle to the road surface, while Crosswind Stability Control mitigates lateral movement due to strong winds. Ride quality is improved by revised front and rear suspension bushings, and optimized steering gear ratios for more secure handling.
Interior noise levels have been reduced using additional dampening materials and a new dynamic damper in the tailgate, and sound levels have been improved through revised motor control and gear reduction.
Finally, the GV70 EV features a virtual gear shift system (VGS) that mimics the experience of driving an internal combustion car. The new active sound design and a boost mode with cluster animation enhances the dynamic driving feel.
Luxury and Convenience Features
The refreshed Electrified GV70 boasts a range of cutting-edge features. The highlight is the available Bang & Olufsen high-resolution sound system, Dolby Atmos sound enhancements and a “Mood Curator” function that optimizes cabin ambiance by adjusting lighting, music and fragrance with a single touch. Other features include improved speech recognition, streaming services built into the car, a digital key system, a built-in dashcam and UV sterilization function in the center console.
For safety, there is a hands-on detection (HoD) steering wheel, lane-keeping assist, remote parking assist and forward, side and rear collision avoidance systems. Genesis will also offer exclusive customization options like paint protection film, side steps, protection mat packages and floating wheel caps.
Pricing and Availability
The 2025 Electrified GV70 will have a starting price of 75.3 million KRW (approximately $56,000 USD) after EV tax incentives in South Korea, with pricing varying based on options and additional incentives. Genesis has an early bird program for customers who sign the contract and take delivery in the first half of the year.
An exclusive exhibition, “Invitation to the Electrified GV70,” will be held at Genesis Suji from January 17th to January 26th, allowing potential buyers to experience the new model and its technology. The exhibit features interactive experiences where customers can test drive a simulated version of the car.
