GAC Trumpchi and Huawei Unveil Concept Sedan for 2025
Huang Yongqiang, General Manager of GAC Group, unveiled the concept car drawing of a joint sedan between GAC Trumpchi and Huawei via social media. The new vehicle, set to launch in 2025, is a collaboration between the two companies, with Trumpchi being a brand under the GAC Motor umbrella.
Prior to this reveal, GAC Trumpchi had announced their joint innovation plan with Huawei at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show in April. This plan includes models equipped with Huawei’s cutting-edge technology, featuring the Qiankun ADS 3.0 intelligent driving system and the latest HarmonyOS cockpit system.
According to previous news, GAC and Huawei are set to cooperate on three models: a large luxury flagship MPV, SUV, and sedan, respectively. The first of these, a large luxury flagship sedan, will be launched and delivered in the first quarter of 2025, aligning with the concept car drawing revealed this time.
The partnership between GAC and Huawei commenced in 2017, marking Huawei as one of the first Chinese automotive companies to collaborate with Huawei in the realm of intelligent connected electric vehicle technology. This was followed by a strategic cooperation agreement in September 2020, aiming to jointly create a digital platform.
In July 2021, GAC Aion announced their plan to co-develop a model internally codenamed AH8 with Huawei. However, in March 2022, GAC Aion announced that Huawei would withdraw from this joint development, instead taking on the role of a supplier. This shift could be attributed to Huawei’s deep involvement in product definition, making it challenging for GAC Aion to adapt and manage Huawei as they would traditional suppliers.
Despite this hiccup, the collaboration between GAC Trumpchi and Huawei persisted. In February 2023, GAC Trumpchi launched the Trumpchi M8 Grandmaster Pioneer Edition, equipped with Huawei’s HarmonyOS smart cockpit system. This was followed by a contract signed in March 2023, where GAC Trumpchi joined the Harmony Ecosystem, paving the way for the development of native applications based on HarmonyOS NEXT.
The collaboration between these two powerhouses in the automotive and technology sectors has captured the attention of both industries, leaving many eager to witness the innovative technologies and designs that will emerge from their joint efforts.
