Kia has officially revealed the exterior and interior design of its latest dedicated electric vehicle, the Kia EV5, on July 8. Positioned in the high-demand compact SUV segment, the EV5 becomes the fifth addition to Kia’s growing lineup of all-electric models, following the EV6, EV9, EV3, and EV4.
As the brand’s first dedicated compact electric SUV to feature a traditional upright SUV silhouette, the EV5 is designed to blend practicality and versatility — signaling Kia’s intent to accelerate the mainstream adoption of electric vehicles.
A Bold, Futuristic Exterior with True SUV Proportions
The exterior of the EV5 reflects Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy, combining boxy strength with dynamic styling. The front fascia presents a futuristic identity consistent with Kia’s EV range, harmonized with the bold volume of a true SUV stance.
Key highlights include a wide, robust skid plate and sculpted hood, which create a commanding first impression. Vertically stacked LED headlamps and Kia’s signature Star Map daytime running lights — inspired by constellations — lend a modern and confident look, reinforcing the EV5’s identity as a mass-market EV flagship.
From the side, the upright D-pillars and tailgate emphasize the cabin’s spacious rear section and generous cargo area. Square-shaped fenders add to the vehicle’s bold and rugged presence, while the 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels feature a sharp, geometric pattern that adds visual dynamism.
At the rear, the clean and upright tailgate is framed by a striking combination of vertical and horizontal LED rear lamps. A sculpted rear bumper further grounds the design, reinforcing the EV5’s robust SUV character.
A Calm and Practical Interior Designed for Everyday Comfort
Inside, the EV5 combines functionality with a refined and serene aesthetic, inspired by harmony with nature. The cabin offers a modern, minimalistic design with premium tech integration and thoughtful spatial solutions.
A panoramic wide display seamlessly integrates a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a separate 5-inch climate control screen — all housed within a horizontal layout that emphasizes width and openness. Dynamic ambient lighting further enhances the futuristic atmosphere.
The center console in the front row offers ample storage, while a sliding tray in the second-row console prioritizes rear passenger convenience. A three-zone climate control system allows independent temperature management for the driver, front passenger, and rear occupants.
One standout feature is the fully flat-folding second-row seats, which can lie completely horizontal when folded forward — creating a continuous surface with the luggage area. This configuration supports a wide range of lifestyle uses, from daily errands to outdoor adventures. The versatile cargo space is further enhanced by a practical luggage board for organized storage.
Setting a New Benchmark for Electric Compact SUVs
Kia says the EV5 represents a new benchmark in Korea’s transition to mass-market electric mobility, offering a blend of advanced electrification and everyday usability. With its upright SUV packaging and a sizable 81.4kWh NCM battery, the EV5 promises a competitive driving range and a wide array of use cases for modern EV customers.
Kia plans to reveal full specifications — including those of the sportier GT-line variant — later this year, ahead of the EV5’s official market launch in the second half of 2025.
