Kia Unveils Second-Generation Seltos with New Hybrid Powertrain

Kia has completely redesigned its best-selling subcompact SUV, the Seltos, for the first time in six years. Orders for the second-generation model begin January 27, featuring an all-new hybrid powertrain and a substantially reinforced K3 platform architecture.

Since its 2019 debut, the Seltos has moved more than 330,000 units in Korea alone. With this full model change, Kia aims to further cement its dominance in the subcompact SUV segment.

Hybrid Takes Center Stage

The most significant addition is a 1.6-liter hybrid variant producing 141 horsepower and delivering a combined fuel economy of 19.5 km/L (approximately 46 mpg). The carryover 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine remains available with 193 horsepower for performance-oriented buyers.

The hybrid model borrows several features previously reserved for EVs. An interior vehicle-to-load (V2L) outlet supplies up to 3.52 kW at 220V—a feature likely to resonate with camping enthusiasts. A new Stay Mode allows climate control and convenience features to operate while parked without starting the engine.

The smart regenerative braking system has evolved to version 3.0, integrating forward traffic conditions with navigation data to enable automatic deceleration to a complete stop. The result: significantly less time on the brake pedal.

A Body 20 Percent Stronger

The new K3 platform underpinning the Seltos was engineered with crash safety as its top priority. Expanded use of ultra-high-strength steel and hot-stamping techniques has increased average body rigidity by roughly 20 percent over its predecessor.

Exterior dimensions have grown as well. Overall length stretches to 4,430 mm, wheelbase to 2,690 mm—increases of 40 mm and 60 mm respectively. Width adds 30 mm to reach 1,830 mm. Rear passengers benefit from 25 mm of additional legroom and 14 mm more headroom. Cargo capacity hits 536 liters, among the largest in its class.

Segment-First Features

The new Seltos claims multiple segment-first titles among combustion-powered vehicles. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2 and Highway Driving Assist 2 come standard, while auto-flush door handles and Digital Key 2 make their debut in the segment.

Kia also introduces Vibro Sound Seats for the first time. Transducers embedded in the front seats synchronize with the audio system to deliver an immersive listening experience. The front row features Relaxion Comfort Seats, while second-row passengers get seatbacks that recline up to 24 degrees.

Pricing Starts at KRW 24.77 Million

The 1.6 turbo Trendy trim opens at KRW 24.77 million (approximately $17,400). Signature runs KRW 31.01 million, and the rugged X-Line tops out at KRW 32.17 million. Hybrid variants are priced at KRW 28.98 million for Trendy, KRW 34.69 million for Signature, and KRW 35.84 million for X-Line—all reflecting eco-vehicle tax incentives.

Kia is offering a 3.6 percent residual value-guaranteed financing plan. With 29 percent down on an entry-level Seltos, monthly payments drop to just KRW 60,000 over 36 months. First-time employees and newlyweds who take delivery in Q1 receive KRW 100,000 in fuel subsidies.

Deliveries begin late this month.
