Leapmotor B03 Electric Supermini Spied

Leapmotor is developing a new electric supermini called the B03 to compete with the Renault 5 and Volkswagen ID Polo, with UK availability expected in early 2027.

Key Details:

  • The B03 will be revealed in China (as the A05) in May 2026 and is a hatchback sibling to the forthcoming B03X crossover
  • Both models share Leapmotor’s new entry-level A platform and will be sold internationally through a joint venture with Stellantis
  • The B03 features a front-mounted motor with two-wheel-drive, offering 94bhp or 121bhp outputs, with battery options of 39.8kWh or 53kWh (lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry)
  • Expected range could exceed 250 miles on the larger battery, potentially offering one of the longest ranges in its class
  • Interior design will match other Leapmotor models with controls managed through a large central touchscreen
  • Pricing is expected to significantly undercut rivals, potentially starting below £20,000
  • The prototype tested featured lidar sensors for semi-autonomous functionality testing (legal in China but not offered in the UK)

Why It Matters: The B03 represents Leapmotor’s strategy to offer affordable electric vehicles with competitive range and features, positioning itself as a budget-friendly alternative in the increasingly crowded supermini EV market.
