Kia has begun public road tests of the redesigned Sonet ahead of an expected early 2027 launch in India, revealing significant updates to the compact SUV.
Key Details:
- The new Sonet adopts design elements from the Seltos, featuring a flatter, more upright grille with honeycomb inserts, new LED DRLs, refreshed bumpers, and updated alloy wheels
- Interior upgrades include larger 12.3-inch screens, new dashboard themes, improved upholstery, and a panoramic sunroof
- The model will transition to the K1 platform, addressing space limitations in the rear seats
- Engine options remain unchanged: 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel, paired with manual, iMT, and automatic transmissions
- The refreshed Sonet will compete against the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, and Skoda Kylaq
Why It Matters: The next-gen Sonet’s platform upgrade and feature enhancements position it to remain competitive in India’s sub-compact SUV segment, though the availability of ADAS technology remains uncertain following its recent removal from the Syros.
