Volvo EX60 Revealed: 400-Mile Range, Ultra-Fast Charging and a New Benchmark for Electric SUVs

Volvo has unveiled the EX60, an all-electric mid-size SUV aimed squarely at the heart of the global EV market. Positioned as the brand’s first fully electric entrant in the largest SUV segment worldwide, the EX60 is designed to remove the final barriers to EV adoption by combining long driving range, ultra-fast charging, advanced safety and competitive pricing in a single package.

As a five-seat family SUV, the EX60 is not only central to Volvo’s electrification strategy, but also a key model in its effort to expand market share beyond early adopters and into mainstream buyers.

Range Anxiety No More: Up to 400 Miles on a Single Charge

One of the EX60’s headline achievements is its driving range. In all-wheel-drive form, the top-spec variant delivers up to 400 miles on a single charge, the longest range ever offered by a Volvo electric vehicle and a new benchmark in the segment.

This places the EX60 ahead of several newly introduced rivals and positions it as a long-distance-capable EV that rivals, and in some cases exceeds, the real-world usability of comparable combustion-engine SUVs.

Volvo is offering three primary powertrain configurations. The P12 AWD Electric sits at the top with the full 400-mile range, followed by the P10 AWD Electric at up to 320 miles, and a rear-wheel-drive P6 Electric variant delivering up to 310 miles. In total, the lineup spans seven variants, allowing buyers to tailor performance, drivetrain and equipment to different lifestyles and budgets. All versions come with a 10-year battery warranty.

Fast Charging That Fits Real Life

Long range alone is no longer enough, and Volvo appears acutely aware of that. The EX60 supports ultra-fast charging at up to 400 kW, enabling it to add as much as 173 miles of range in just 10 minutes under optimal conditions.

In the United States, the EX60 will be the first Volvo to feature a native NACS charging port, giving owners direct access to Tesla’s Supercharger network without the need for adapters. This move significantly expands charging convenience and reflects Volvo’s pragmatic approach to accelerating EV adoption.

Taken together, range and charging performance position the EX60 as a vehicle that replaces compromise with confidence, particularly for long-distance travel and daily usability.

New SPA3 Architecture: Lighter, Smarter, More Efficient

Underpinning the EX60 is Volvo’s new SPA3 electric vehicle architecture, paired with the brand’s next-generation core computing system known as HuginCore. This combination introduces major advances in scalability, manufacturing efficiency and cost control.

Key technologies include cell-to-body battery integration, next-generation in-house electric motors, a newly developed battery cell design and large-scale mega casting. These elements reduce vehicle weight, improve structural efficiency and contribute directly to extended range and lower energy consumption.

The result is not only improved performance but also the lowest carbon footprint of any fully electric Volvo to date, matching that of the smaller EX30 and reinforcing the EX60’s environmental credentials.

Scandinavian Design, Optimized for an Electric Era

Visually, the EX60 evolves Volvo’s Scandinavian design language for a fully electric future. The exterior blends clean surfaces with purposeful aerodynamics, featuring a low front end, sloping roofline and tapered body sides. These design choices help achieve a drag coefficient of 0.26, supporting the vehicle’s class-leading efficiency.

Inside, the emphasis is on calm, space and functionality. A long wheelbase and flat floor deliver generous rear legroom, while the cargo area and multiple storage solutions enhance everyday practicality. Materials are natural and high-quality, reinforcing Volvo’s premium positioning without unnecessary excess.

A Premium Digital and Audio Experience

Technology inside the EX60 extends beyond performance and safety. For the first time in a Volvo, Apple Music comes pre-installed with Dolby Atmos support, delivering immersive spatial audio through a 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system. Headrest speakers are fitted to all four main seats, creating a surround experience for every occupant.

The infotainment system itself is faster and more responsive than any previous Volvo system, with near-instant map loading, smooth screen transitions and improved voice recognition.

An Intelligent Car That Understands You

The EX60 debuts Google’s new Gemini AI assistant in a Volvo production car. Fully integrated into the vehicle, Gemini allows drivers and passengers to interact naturally without relying on rigid voice commands. The system builds on Volvo’s long-standing partnership with Google and its role as a reference platform for Android Automotive OS.

Powered by HuginCore, the EX60 continuously processes data from across the vehicle, enabling more responsive software, improved user experience and future functionality through over-the-air updates.

Safety at the Core, as Expected from Volvo

Safety remains a defining pillar of the EX60. Built to exceed regulatory and rating requirements, the vehicle represents the most advanced expression of the Volvo Cars Safety Standard to date.

A reinforced safety cage incorporating boron steel forms the foundation, while advanced restraint systems work in concert with Volvo’s latest multi-adaptive safety belt technology. The EX60 constantly monitors its surroundings through an extensive sensor suite, enabling precise situational awareness and proactive safety responses.

Designed to Improve Over Time

Like Volvo’s latest electric models, the EX60 is engineered to evolve through regular over-the-air software updates. Features, performance optimizations and user experience improvements will continue to roll out after purchase, ensuring the vehicle remains current throughout its lifecycle.

Production of the EX60 begins this spring at Volvo’s Swedish facility. Orders are already open in select European markets, with U.S. availability scheduled for late spring. Deliveries of the P6 and P10 variants will start in summer, followed by the flagship P12 shortly thereafter.
